Final Portfolio

Heya Rusty, ol' pal, ol' friend!
First off, hope you're feeling better.
Secondly, IT IS FIN!! (finished in Spanish ;)
Here are my FINAL PORTFOLIO (so many capital letters!)!!!
Anyways, here it is!

1. Book Cover

Favorite project this semester. I love book covers. It took so long to think of an idea/concept for this. But in the end, I feel it was worth it. I ended up printing on luster paper, instead of matte. Not too many problems with this overall, I don't feel. Honestly, I researched book covers, tried different (sucky ideas) at least 4 times, and stared at my screen for the majority of this time.

Expected Hours: 16
Total Hours: 22

2. How Safe

Again, it took FOREVER to think of a concept. I finally went with the idea of having a '50s diner theme. There was soooo little text to use, which made it so difficult to fill the page in a way that was aesthetically pleasing. I really liked the little girl that I have. I went over budget on pretty much everything this time. It just took so long to figure stuff out on how I wanted to do it.

Expected Hours: 9
Total Hours: 12

3. Secret of Feeling Full

I made multiple versions of this. I had originally had a green layout, like I uploaded previously. I much prefer this. I went with the idea of using a theme that revolved around a recipe card. I redid this so often and did a lot of research. I had many different thoughts in my head on how I wanted this 'recipe card' to look. This was the final one. I liked the feel of it. It was cutesy without being overly cute (in my opinion of course.)

Expected Time: 9 Hours
Total Time: 11 Hours

4. Wick Fowler

2-Alarm Chili! Alright, I want to try this because I made an advertisement for it. (Every time I say "advertisement", I think of my senior year English teacher and how she told us that it used to be pronounced, "add-ver-tiss-mint"--we were actually studying the Great Gatsby coincidentally)
I had no clue what to do with this without making it dumb. I'm not a fan of doing food things. I much prefer books and posters and such things as that. I spent a bit of time thinking of the concept. Once I did, the biggest time consumer was just the tedious act of working with the graphics and the colors of the peppers and jalepenos. I spent probably a good 17 hours on those alone. I worked with cutting them out, changing colors (back and forth, back and forth, the colors went), and saving wrong, and then going back and saving properly after I fixed it.

Expected Hours: 22
Total Hours:  23

5. Black History Month

SO MANY DIFFERENT IDEAS FOR THIS. None were what I wanted them to be until I got to this. You (Rusty), Andy, my roommate Diane, and my boyfriend all broke out into the Lion King Theme song when I showed this to them. May be an indicator that it reminds them of Lion King, but it's not for sure. :P
Anyways, I spent WAY more time than necessary on this, I went way over budget for what was allowed. I showed you probably 4 different concepts, if not more. It's ridiculous. I had so many ideas floating in my head. It finally came down to this, and I am happy with it, though I'm not sure about you. You seemed to be okay'ing my things simply because you were tired of talking to me, which if that's what gets them ok'd then, so be it. But I want a nice grade, please :)

Expected Hours: 5
Total Hours: 10

6. Beverage

Not gonna lie, THIS WAS AWESOME. It was hard at first because I'd never worked with something this intricate, but it was entertaining and I enjoyed it. I liked the color palette I used. Also, mocking it up, was a blast. I realized I love problem solving in that way. At first, I was like, "Rusty, what are you doing do me? This makes no sense." And then I was like, "Rusty, this still makes no sense. I think you were on something when you found this template for us." And then I was like, "Oooooohhhhh, thaaaat's where that goes. Makes sense." So then it al got better! This surprisingly came together extremely quickly. I didn't expect it to be that quick. I thought of the palette colors I wanted, the look I wanted it to have, who I wanted to market it to (young hipster-ish people--cuz let's face it, that's who consumes the most tea in the universe right now probably.)
I probably worked on the actual construction for at least two and a half hours alone. Label, it took around 6 hours to do everything: layout, cut/paste to bottles, etc.

Expected Hours: 35
Total Hours: 40

I spent, over all 118 hours on things. This did not include blogging, which I would say took up to about 10 hours (total for the semester), another 2 hours for production, 4 hours for cutting/matting, and crying which took up about 3 hours total this semester. I won't include the crying in this next total, however I feel it should because it helped me get some work done at times. But the overall total for everything I've done this semester rounds to about 134 hours.  (Including the crying, it was 137, just fyi ;)

Onto the second half of my things!
These are from first semester. I didn't retouch them, though I probably should have.

7. Smokey the Bear

I liked my idea for this one :)

Expected Time: 9 Hours
Total Time: 11 Hours

8. Herpetology

Right on schedule for this one! I got the idea pretty quickly. I just googled info on frogs and found that they are called an army when they are in a group. So there ya go! Looking back, if I had the means to illustrate, I would have illustrated a frog in an Uncle Sam's uniform pointing to the viewer.

Expected Time: 6 Hours
Total Time: 6.5 Hours

9. Grand Tetons

I had sooo many revisions for this. Once I got the idea, it only took me two hours to execute. But before that, I had worked on this so many times and with so many revisions. So it ended up taking a lot longer than expected. Once I did it though, I loved it!

Expected time: 6 Hours
Total Time: 8 Hours

10. Text Poster and Webpage

I had to revise a lot, hence the extra hours.

Expected Time: 6 Hours
Total Time: 8 Hours

Total hours for these listed is 167.5. I calculated from previous posts and personal time sheets to add on around 70 hours. Making my total 237.5 hours. Well Rusty, this brings us to a close. I'll see ya next semester. I'LL BE A JUNIOR! WHAT?! It really has been wonderful working with you, and getting to be your student. You da best!!

Also, this hamster wants to drop in and say he hopes you get better soon. And I hope so too! :)
